Shkodra in Carnival, the long-standing tradition of beautiful carnivals continues
The capital of northern Albania, the beautiful Shkodra is preparing to celebrate the Carnival festival on February 23, 24 and 25, 2024. The streets of Shkodra during Carnival will be filled with colors and masks of classic and historical characters to celebrate this wonderful, long-standing tradition of the historic city. The Municipality of Shkodra will organize three days and nights of festivities in the city and invites all enthusiasts to join this festive atmosphere, where there will be no shortage of various activities, beautiful music, delicious foods, and above all, the fine Shkodran humor and lots of laughter and fun.
“The Streets of Shkodra in Carnival” comes as a colorful celebration to experience the beauty of the Shkodrans’ long-standing tradition as it used to be, when the carnivals, known as “surretënit,” would roam the city streets with masks, knocking from door to door, dancing, singing, and frolicking, and were rewarded with characteristic doughnuts and dried fruits. During this festival, the beautiful Venetian masks, which are artisanally produced in a workshop in Shkodra dedicated to the Venetian art of masks and decorations with themes of various historical characters, which have also been used in the Hollywood film “Eyes Wide Shut,” are particularly interesting.
