Aulona Inter-Folk Fest

The coastal city of Vlora, south Albania, will be hosting the IX edition of the European folk festival, “Aulona Inter Folk Festival,” from 11 to 13 may, 2017.

This year edition kicks off on 11 May, at “Pavaresia” (Independence) square and ends on 13 May amid the opening of the tourist season “Vlora 2017”organised by the city hall.

Vlora will be the centre of European folklore for three nights in a row displaying folk songs and dances from the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Sri Lanka, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania.

The festival is organized by the Cultural Centre “Aulona” with the support of the Municipality of Vlora, the Ministry of Culture and other donors.

Aulona Folk Festival is a magnificent celebration of European folklore and a rare promoter of the official tourist season in Vlora thus intertwining cultural tourism to the natural one.

The first edition was held back in 2009 marking the first folk international festival on Albanian soil.

Due to its standards, geography and diversity this festival is recognized by the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF), UNESCO’s official partner, as part of its annual global festivals.

Around 70 folk ensembles from different European countries consisting of 2300 participants took part in the eight previous editions.

The “Festival Cup” is the highest award given which in Tirana was won by the National Ensemble of Songs and Dances.

This edition’s honorary president of the festival is the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences, Muzafer Korkuti.
